Töredék sorsa:

Varjú Elemér 114 darabos paleográfiai gyűjteményéből került a könyvtárba, lásd OSZK Kézirattári Növedéknapló 1899. évi 12. sz. bejegyzés.
A négy levélpár ugyanabból a kódexből származik, azonban a jelzetek időközben összekeveredtek. Az f. 3-6 levélpár mindvégig a D 26 alatt szerepelt, míg az f. 1-2 a D 29C, az f. 4-5 a D 29B, az f. 7-8 pedig a D 29A jelzetet kapta. Szendrei Janka e jelzetek alatt dolgozta fel őket, és így is hivatkozik rájuk, mint OSZK Fragm. D 26 és OSZK Fragm. D 29 töredékre, az A, B és C elemek elhagyásával. Mivel azonban a D 29 jelzet alatt egy másik, a breviáriumtól független töredék található, ezért a D 29A, D 29B és D 29C névvel jelölt három csonka levélpárt újra a D 26 jelzet alá soroltuk, az eredeti, Hajdú Helga és kollégái által adott jelzeteket visszaállítva.

Tartalmi megjegyzések:

Ünnepek, énekrend vö. Linz, Oberösterreichische Landesbibliothek, Hs. 290 breviárium (Kremsmünster–Lambach,12. sz.), kivéve a Liber Regum esetében, ahol csak az Exaudisti, Domine… kezdetű responzórium közös, valamint a szanktorále esetében is vannak kisebb eltérések, de az olvasmányok nem egyeznek meg. A töredék írásképe és díszítése erős hasonlóságot mutat egy szintén lambachi használatból származó, a 11. század második felében készült, 22 levélből álló breviárium-töredékkel (Beinecke MS 481.25). Az énekelt részeknél tartalmi azonosság is megfigyelhető (az Exaltatio crucis ünnepénél, 17r–v), az olvasmányok esetében Máté apostol ünnepénél (17v–18r) van egyezés. Az Exaltatio crucis ünnepének énekei szintén ugyanebben a sorrendben szerepelnek a szintén lambachi provenienciájúnak tartott, csak töredékesen megmaradt ún. Gottschalk-Antifonále 102v levelén (ld. Davis 2000, 198, kép: 304). Énekrendje átfedést mutat az Einsiedeln, Stiftsbibliothek, Codex 611(89) jelzetű, szintén bencés antifonáléval is, de nem ugyanazokat az ünnepeket tartalmazzák.

Cover. The marks of folding are visible. The writing has been obliterated where the spine of the host document was. One leaf of the bifolia was vertically halved. The corner and margins of f. 3–6 were cut, a line is missing from the bottom of the pages.

Physical condition of the fragment:

Four thick, yellowed bifolia with holes, brown at the foldings. The writing rubbed off where the spine of the host book used to be. Restored: NSZL, 18 May 1999.

The history of the Fragment:

It came to the library from Elemér Varjú's collection according to entry no. 12 from 1899 in the NSZL Manuscript Collection Accession Register (19 April 1899): "ex coll. E. Varjú" (part of a 114 leaf palaeographical collection). The four bifolia originate from the same manuscript, however, the shelfmarks were mixed up at one point. Bifolium f. 3–6 was always under the shelfmark D 26, while f. 1–2 was given the shelfmark D 29C, f. 4–5 the shelfmark D 26B, and f. 7–9 the shelfmark D 29A. Janka Szendrei described them under these shelfmarks and referred to them as OSZK Fragm D 26 and OSZK Fragm. D 29, omitting the letters A, B, and C. Because D 29 marks another fragment with no connection to the breviary, we replaced the three incomplete bifolia marked D 29A, D 29B, and D 29C under the shelfmark D 26, thereby restituting the shelfmarks given by Helga Hajdú and her colleagues.

Comparison:

Feasts, order of chants cf. Linz, Oberösterreichische Landesbibliothek, Hs. 290 breviary (Kremsmünster–Lambach, 12th century), exept the Liber Regum, where only the responsory Exaudisti, Domine… is the same. There are small differences in the sanctorale too, and the readings are different. The script and decoration of the fragment look very similar to the fragment of a breviary consisting of 22 leaves and originating from the second half of the 11th century (Beinecke MS 481.25). Some of the chants are also identical (at the feast of Exaltatio crucis, 17r–v), the readings for the feast of Saint Matthew are identical. The chants for the feast of the Invention of the Holy Cross figure almost in the same order as on f. 102v of the fragmentary Gottschalk Antiphonary, which is also believed to originate from Lambach (see Davis 2000, p. 198, image on p. 304). The order of chants shows similarities with that of the Benedictine antiphonal of Einsiedeln, Stiftsbibliothek, Codex 611(89), but the two do not have the same feasts.
