Töredék fizikai állapota:

Könyvkötésre használt, a hajtásoknál megsárgult, erős pergamen, szélei levágva, ragasztó nyomaival. Az első levél külső széléről hiányzik egy kb 32 mm széles csík.A 2r oldal alján egy 12. század végi, notált pergamenlevél darabkájával pótolták ki a szakadást. A darabka a Cum appropinquaret Dominus... kezdetű, virágvasárnapi antifóna kis részletét tartalmazza, német adiasztematikus neumákkal kottázva.

A fejezetek kezdetét a tintával azonos színnel írt, színes kitöltésű, vörös pontsorral kísért inzuláris iniciálék jelzik, amelyek olykor madárfejben végződnek. Különböző színekkel kitöltött, fekete majuszkulák.

Keletkezés helye:

Német nyelvterület – Írásképe alapján a kódex Dél-Angliában vagy az angolszász bencés misszió valamely délnémet központjában készülhetett. Bernhard Bischoff paleográfiai okokból Fulda városához kötötte, amit a szöveghagyomány is alátámaszt.

Használat helye:

Német területen használhatták fel könyvkötésként, egy 1625-ben, Innsbruckban nyomtatott könyvet kötöttek bele. A javításra felhasznált notált darabka szintén német eredetű. A berlini Beda-töredék őrzőkönyve szintén németországi nyomtatvány (Machiavelli, Historia Florentina, Strasbourg, Zetzner, 1610), tehát az eredeti kódex lapjait valószínűleg még Németországban kezdték el kötőanyagként hasznosítani.

Töredék sorsa:

A nemzeti könyvtárba Jankovich Miklós gyűjteményével került. A töredéket a könyvről az 1930-as években fejtették le, ezután külön mappában őrzik. Az őrzőkönyv bejegyzései jezsuita használatra utalnak, a töredék Egyetemi Könyvtárban található párjának őrzőkönyve korábban a pozsonyi jezsuiták tulajdonában volt, a két töredék valószínűleg hasonló utat járt be.

Physical condition of the fragment:

Strong parchment used for binding, yellow where folded, with cut margins, traces of glue. An approximately 32 mm stripe is missing from the outer margin of the first leaf. A piece of a parchment leaf with late 12th-century musical notation was used to repair a tear on the bottom of page 2r. This piece contains a small fragment of the Palm Sunday antiphon Cum appropinquaret Dominus... with German adiastematic neumes.

The chapters begin with insular initials written in the same ink as the text and coloured. Some of the initials end in bird heads. Black majuscules filled in different colours.

Place of origin:

German-speaking area – Based on its script, the manuscript must have been prepared in Southern England or in one of the Southern German centres of the Anglo-Saxon Benedictine mission. Bernhard Bischoff connected it to Fulda for palaeographical reasons. This is reinforced by the textual tradition.

Place of use:

It was used as a binding of a book printed in Innsbruck in 1625 in the German-speaking region. The parchment piece with musical notation used for reparation is also of German origin. The host book of another fragment from this manuscript preserved now in Berlin was also a book printed in Germany (Machiavelli, Historia Florentina, Strasbourg, Zetzner, 1610), therefore, the using of the leaves of the original codex as binding material was begun in Germany.

The history of the Fragment:

It came into the possession of the National Library as a part of Miklós Jankovich's collection. The fragment was detached from the host book in the 1930s and has been kept in a separate folder ever since. The handwritten notes in the host book suggest Jesuit users. The host book of another fragment from the same manuscript, preserved now in the University Library of the Eötvös Loránd University, was in the possession of the Jesuits of Pressburg. The two fragments probably followed the same itinerary.

Die Anfänge der Kapitel sind mit tintengleicher Farbe geschriebenen, manchmal sich in Vogelköpfe endenden insularen Initialen markiert. Schwarzen Majuskeln mit verschiedenen Füllung.

Provenienz:

Deutscher Sprachraum – Aufgrund seines Schriftbildes dürfte der Kodex in Südengland oder in einem süddeutschen Zentrum der angelsächsischen Benediktiner-Mission entstanden sein. Bernhard Bischoff verband es aus paläografischen Gründen mit Fulda. Diese Annahme wird durch die Textüberlieferung bestätigt.

Benutzugsort:

Das Fragment wurde im deutschen Sprachraum als Bucheinband verwendet, die Trägerhs. wurde 1625 in Innsbruck gedruckt. Der für die Reparatur verwendete, notierte Pergamentstück stammt ebenfalls aus Deutschland. Die Trägerhs. des Berliner Beda-Fragments ist ebenfalls ein deutscher Druck (Machiavelli, Historia Florentina, Straßburg, Zetzner, 1610), sodass die Seiten des Kodex wahrscheinlich noch in Deutschland als Einbandmaterial verwendet wurden.

Nachleben des Fragments:

Das Fragment so wie die Trägerhs. gehörte dem Nachlass von Miklós Jankovich und mit der Jankovich-Sammlung wurde in den Besitz der Ungarischen Nationalbiblithek gelangt. Es wurde in den 1930er Jahren von der Trägerhs. abgetrennnt und ist seit dann separiert aufbewahrt. Die in der Trägerhs. auffindbare Einträge deuten auf eine Nutzung durch Jesuiten hin, das Buch, dessen Beda-Fragment sich in der Eötvös-Loránd-Universitätsbibliothek befindet, gehörte zuvor den Jesuiten in Pressburg, die beiden Fragmente haben wahrscheinlich einen ähnlichen Weg zurückgelegt.
